1: The Annunciation to Zacharias (Luke 1:5-22). While "all the multitude of the people was praying without" Zacharias goes into the Temple, which in fact and in most other images is an enclosed space, to offer incense. We see the incense burning in a salver in his hand. Then the angel Gabriel appears and tells him of the coming birth of a son whom he is to name John.
